Topic: Guiding our journey from a world of objects to a world of relationships

Tom has developed the tool Cards for Life, which supports individuals and teams to bring living systems thinking into cultures and organisations. The cards work as a guidance system and a shared language to define regeneration in particular situations, sectors and contexts. .

Cards for Life is much more than a deck of cards, it’s a connected way of seeing the world. A set of key concepts for ‘Living Systems Thinking’ that shifts our focus from ‘objects’ to ‘relationships’, helping us to regenerate the connections between self & world, humans & nature. These cards enable a better quality of conversation for deeper connection and a shared language that leads to more effective communication and collaboration.

Both a personal guidance system and a collective sense making tool for developing eco and systems literacy, this regenerative vocabulary provides a shared language so people can define regeneration for themselves in their particular situation, sector and context. Whether coaching individuals and teams on their purpose, empowering community led visions or for regenerative innovation and design, these cards help to bring life's Dynamics into new ways of Being and Doing.

You will explore live exercises using the unique Cards for Life system to observe nature's dynamic processes within and without, connecting both self awareness and systemic awareness and use them to observe living systems to help a shift from perceiving ‘things’ to perceiving relationships and processes. This is a powerful and simple exercise to practice ‘systems seeing’ beyond ‘systems thinking’ as just a theoretical exercise.

Shortbio

Tom Mansfield is the founder of Pale Blue where he offers Coaching and Consulting in service to Planetary Health. Self taught in many subjects as an autodidact he naturally creates tools and programmes for participatory learning with a focus on alignment between individuals and the life of the world.

He is also a Bio-leadership Fellow and as a member of its team leads in creating moments where all cohorts come together to connect, learn and collaborate, often using nature and its inherent dynamics as a guidance. His favourite place in nature are the woods of Exmoor in southwest England. For him, these ancient oak forests still hold a special magic. He loves the Bio-leadership community for putting 'relationships first' and co-weaving a rich fabric of resilient, regenerative connections - not unlike the trees themselves.

His current focus is on frameworks for regenerative practice in business and organisational design where he is living the question ‘How do organisations participate regeneratively in life sustaining systems?’. Cards for Life and the larger Thinking like Gaia training and workbook is a response to this question which supports individuals and teams with a coaching approach to bring ‘living systems thinking’ into the cultures where they live and work.
