Bringing integral perspectives to local politics - examples from Findhorn and the Global Mayors Academy
- Experiences from Findhorn:
Marilyn Hamilton: Bringing integral perspectives to the politics of Ecovillage survival in VUCA times.
Marilyin Hamilton is a long-standing resident of the UK's oldest ecovillage: Park Ecovillage Findhorn. In the last few years, she has stepped back from the global and national stages and become quite immersed in the regenerative capacities of the ecovillage. She now finds herself as Chair of the Board of Findhorn Foundation SCIO – version 3 of the founding organisation that birthed the ecovillage.
She says: “Only with Integral Perspectives translated into Action Research processes, have I survived to tell this tale during your IFIS Colloquium”.

Paddy Pampallis: Bringing integral perspectives to municipalities
Based on Marilyn’s work about how to design an integral city, Paddy will share the basics of teaching students from the public sector to start thinking in more integral ways. A core dimension of this is to use the 4 voices or 4 domains of experience that need to be considered in a truly system developmental approach for leaders and teams: Vertical and horizontal learning, leading for system impact. She sees integral perspectives as providing a navigating map for working in social and political settings. On this basis, she will share how the politics of being human can be a dividing or integrating force as with anything: depending on the level of consciousness that we hold on it. When we have maps and practices that hold us to be both humble and accountable to recognising our participation in and with the planet and all other 'objects', we can see ourselves in a co-creation process.
